Background/Purpose of Request:
Brunswick County Public Utilities received the Large Water Distribution System of the Year Award for the fifth year in a row at the annual conference of the NC AWWA-WEA. The large distribution category is for utilities with more than 500 miles of water mains. Currently Brunswick County maintains over 1,090 miles of water mains and, as such, competed against large distribution systems such as Charlotte-Mecklenburg and Raleigh.
In the presentation of the award, the NC AWWA-WEA cited Brunswick County's level of expertise and dedication as demonstrated by the level of licensure obtained by employees, efforts of highly trained and dedicated employees maintaining the potable water supply throughout the six weeks it took to repair the raw water main break in Riegelwood, and the innovative programs implemented by the Public Utilities Department including the Advanced Meter Infrastructure (AMI) system. The award reflects the hard work and dedication of all employees in the department and the leadership provided by the Superintendent and Foremen.
County staff recommends that the Board of Commissioners accept this award and honor the employees for the hard work and dedication required to achieve the award. |
