Utilities - Oak Island Wholesale Bulk Water Service Agreement (John Nichols, PE, Director of Public Utilities)

Issue/Action Requested:

Request that the Board of Commissioners approve the renewed Wholesale Bulk Water Service Agreement between Brunswick County and the Town of Oak Island and authorize the Chairman to execute the agreement upon review by the County Attorney.

Background/Purpose of Request:

On April 20, 1976, the Town of Long Beach (now Oak Island) and Brunswick County entered into a Water Service Contract which was later amended in 1980 and again in 1989. The original 40-year term of the wholesale water service agreement has expired, and the Town and County have been in discussions for several months regarding the development of a new agreement that would take effect in October 2021.  The Town approved the agreement at their August 10, 2021, meeting.  Staff recommends approval of the Wholesale Water Service Agreement.
