Background/Purpose of Request:
The Local Government Budget and Fiscal Control Act provides elements of the budget process followed by NC counties and establishes dates that must be adhered to in the development of the annual budget. Attached is a budget calendar that conforms to the statutory process with the addition of the county practice of the strategic planning process of establishing and measuring goals in conjunction with the development of the department budget requests.
Key dates proposed in the recommended calendar:
- November 10, 2021 - Commissioners' Strategic Planning and Goal Setting Workshop 10am - 1pm
- February 7 - 8, 2022 - Commissioners' Countywide Goal Workshop; Day 1: 9am - 3pm; Day 2: 9am - 5pm
- May 2, 2022 - Commissioners' Budget Workshop 9am - 3pm
- May 16, 2022 - County Manager Recommended Budget Presentation
- June 6, 2022 - Public Hearing 3pm
- June 6, 2022 - Board of Commissioners study session on the Recommended Budget 1pm - 3pm, if needed
- June 20, 2022 - Adoption of the Budget
