| | | | | | | | Issue/Action Requested: Request the Board of Commissioners accept a grant award with the North Carolina Governor's Highway Safety Program (GHSP) which will allow for the creation of a Traffic Unit at the Sheriff's Office. The grant provides for federal funding of three deputy positions, vehicles, and associated equipment. The total value of the grant is $331,367.00 with a 15% county match of $58,477 for a total project cost of $389,844 the first year. |

The grant award was effective October 1st in accordance with the federal fiscal year, but this final document/agreement was received September 26th. In addition to this agreement, the request also asks for the Board to authorize the County Manager to execute any additional documents that may be required in connection with grant. Finally, included with this agenda item are the application, which breaks down the budget and background of grant, as well as the Resolution and Agreement of Conditions that were previously approved by the Board. |

Budget appropriates federal revenues of $331,367 and General Fund fund balance of $58,477 for the Governor's Highway Safety Program Grant (GHSP) Traffic Unit Safety Project.
An additional budget amendment appropriating $28,750 of other sales and services revenues for operating costs in addition to the County's Match (such as motor fuels, uniforms, small equipment, etc.) is included.
Year's 2 and 3 of the grant have not been finalized, but are projected to only provide funding of 70% and 50%, respectively. |
