Background/Purpose of Request:
The West Brunswick Regional Drip Site is one of multiple sites utilized for dispersal of tertiary treated wastewater. Prior to dispersal, the tertiary treated water is pumped through existing filter trains (north and south) to remove any fine solids that could cause disruptions to the emitters utilized to disperse the water. The existing filter trains were placed in service in 2006 and are approaching or have reached their expected life cycle. We are currently only utilizing the north side filter train due to severe degradation of the south side filter train.
Amiad Water Systems is the sole provider for the equipment utilized for filtration at the dispersal site. Amiad water systems representatives visited the site on December 6, 2021, and provided the specifications for the filter train replacement based on their inspection and assessment.
Funds were budgeted in FY22 for replacement of the degraded south side filter train in the amount of $60,000.00 pursuant to an evaluation received in late 2020. After the December 2021 site visit and assessment by representatives of Amiad Water Systems, further degradation was noted and additional funds were allocated for the replacement of the filter train. The south side filter train has since been shut down, due to failure. An invitation to bid was advertised in the State Port Pilot newspaper, the County website, IPS, HUB, and MailChimp. Brunswick County received one responsible bid from an authorized vendor. The lowest responsible bid for the filter train replacement was from Waste Water Systems Inc. There are available funds within the line-item budget to cover the expenditure required from the lowest responsible bidder.
Staff recommends approval of the contract with Waste Water Systems Inc in the amount of $143,691.00. |
