Background/Purpose of Request:
The flu is a contagious respiratory virus that can cause mild to severe illness, and at times can lead to death. Those at high risk for serious flu complications include older people, young children, people with certain health conditions or compromised immune systems.
The flu vaccine can provide a degree of protection against the virus and is available via two primary venders: GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) and Sanofi Pasteur, Inc.
The flu vaccine order for FY22-23 is as follows:
- GSK: $31,122.00 (Flulaval Quadrivalent: 1750 doses)
- Sanofi: $95,705.13 (Fluzone High Dose Quadrivalent: 1650 doses)
$4060.22 (Flublok Quadrivalent: 70 doses)
The demand for the flu vaccine in Brunswick County has historically been high. In addition to administering the vaccine at our primary health clinic, Brunswick County Health Services offers outreach clinics to Brunswick County Schools and local communities throughout the county.
Staff recommends approval of the flu vaccine order. |
